Grain - Horizontal or Vertical
The difference between horizontal and vertical grains in bamboo refer to the direction of the slats that are used in construction. The difference is one of appearance only – it is a matter of personal preference.
Bamboo with a horizontal grain shows the wider part of each slat. The horizontal grain has a stronger visual resemblance to the bamboo plant, since the nodes are more apparent and the gain is more noticeable. The horizontal grain is exotic and relaxing. We have slightly more customers who prefer the horizontal over the vertical grain.
Bamboo with vertical grain features slats with the narrow side turned to the surface, resulting in a minimalist bamboo appearance. The nodes are still noticeable, but blend in with the rest of the grain. Vertical grain bamboo is perhaps more versatile, used in a variety of design themes.
Most of our customers purchase moulding and accessories to match the grain they’ve chosen for their floor. However, we’ve also seen vertical moulding used with horizontal floors for a very appealing effect, and vice versa. |
